Prized for its flavor in apple pies and hard cider, the Arkansas Black is one of the most unique local apples. The thick, waxy, dark red, almost black skin gives the apple its name. When crafted into hard cider it adds a hint of tannin and rich notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and honey. The high amounts of sugar and acid as well as a range of complex flavors makes biting into a Gold Rush apple an exquisite experience. The same complex flavor profile makes for an excellent cider.
